SITTING PRETTY IN A sky blue knit dress, I sipped a glass of red wine at Mistics restaurant.

Kaleb laughed at his brother's jokes but his eyes never left me.

If his brother didn’t insist, I join them for dinner, I would’ve eaten in my room. I peeked at Dex. He sat at a corner table glaring at patrons throughout the restaurant. Ramiro was here, too. The mafias best men watched our backs. That brought me comfort.

“Skyy, tell the truth. Are you and my brother rebuilding your old relationship? Now that his wife is dead?”

“Dalton, if you came here to visit and try to salvage our brotherhood fine, but you won’t go after Skyy.”

“It’s ok, Kaleb.” I smiled widely.

“Today was nothing more than fun times. There isn’t a future for us.”

Dalton’s head tilted to the side and his lazy grin got under my skin.

Kaleb shot daggers at me across the table. My comment got under his skin. Hell, those words felt bitter as they sat on my tongue.

I wasn’t sure when Dalton would drop the bomb that I nearly killed him in a car accident.

Kaleb peeked at his phone. “I’ll be right back. I have to call Boston Mass.”

My heart beat in my throat. Shit.

“Go. We’ll be fine.” A fake smile swept my lips as Kaleb rose.

He nodded before darting out of the restaurant.

I lifted my finger, waving over our server.

“What can I get for you?” she grinned.

“More wine, please. Actually, bring the bottle and leave it.”

“Right away.” She darted off.

“Dalton, here’s your chance.” Our eyes locked, and I wiggled my nose.

“To tell me how you really feel.”

He leaned in. “I came here today to make amends with my brother. I never expected to see the woman who almost killed me three years ago here in Culver Blue. At first, I didn’t know who you were. After the accident, I pondered on who Alena’s enemies were. She had a lot, but none she’d want to kill. We were playing darts one night. She said, ‘I wish the board was Skyy’s face. I said she’s nonexistent. Why do you care about her? She said because Kaleb will never stop thinking about her. She’s like the third person in my marriage.”

Dalton was a gorgeous guy. Rough and rugged. His brown hair was short and wild. He could’ve been with any woman he wanted. I wished Alena never sank her claws into him. I wasn’t sure if he moved on with his life or what. He deserved so much more.

The server returned and poured wine into our glasses, then left the bottle.

“During my recovery, I hired a PI to investigate you. He brought back pictures. A part of me couldn’t believe it was you, but then again it made perfect sense. I wondered did you want her out of the way so you could have Kaleb back in your life. Tell me. Did you know who I was when you set your bullshit stunt in motion? he growled in a whisper.

Who in his family didn’t watch me?
